About the Speakers:

Debra NussbaumDebra Nussbaum, M.A.-CCC-A, Coordinator, Cochlear Implant Education Center, Outreach and Partnerships, Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center

Debra Nussbaum has been Coordinator of the Cochlear Implant Education Center at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University since 2000. She worked at the Clerc Center as an audiologist beginning in 1977 where she spearheaded national efforts to look at the combined roles of spoken language and signed language in the education of children who use cochlear implants. She has developed numerous resource materials and presents nationally and internationally on the topic of auditory and speech skill development for deaf children who also use signed language, and on educational considerations for students with cochlear implants. She is adjunct professor at Gallaudet University where she co-teaches Family-Professional Collaboration in Early Communication Planning, and an on-line course, Cochlear Implants: Considerations for Decision Making and Educational Planning.

 

Susanne ScottSusanne Scott, M.S., CCC-A, Outreach Specialist, Outreach and Partnerships, Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center

Susanne Scott has worked at Gallaudet University since 1980. She has extensive experience in working with deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. She has done numerous presentations at national conventions/conferences and written articles and books related to habilitation with deaf and hard of hearing individuals from birth through adult. She has supervised and taught graduate students in the Department of Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences at Gallaudet University in the area of aural rehabilitation. She joined the Clerc Center as an outreach specialist in the Fall of 2003. She is currently a mentor for AEBPD (ASL/ English Bilingual Professional Development) at the Clerc Center.
